Whether running the largest of couriers Bristol has to offer or a tiny startup business based entirely on the web, your very first trade show will be quite the daunting experience – period. True, if attending with a badly-planned and chaotic approach the whole thing can be a real business disaster, but by taking along the correct attitude and the following seven key tips, you can pretty much bank on coming away from the experience considerably better off:First and foremost, never for one second consider going to the show alone…ever! The reason for this is that fact that even if your business is incredibly small and you yourself are running things solo, chances are one point or another you’ll have your hands tied sweet-talking some potential clients…so who will be charming the rest while you’re busy? It doesn’t matter who you take, just take someone!

Another often overlooked issue is that of dressing for the occasion, as while you might indeed want to convey the right image with your attire, exhibition centers can be rather unpredictable in terms of climate. Be prepared that you might be anywhere between roasting alive and freezing cold, therefore take plenty of spares along for the ride. Quite the no-brainer of course but again something that is often underestimated in its importance, make sure you arrive not just early, but as early as possible! You need a good parking space to be able to run to and from the car as often as often as you might need to, plenty of time to get all plugs and points established and maybe even enough time for an emergency trip to go pick up whatever you forgot to put in the car.

Always seen as one of the most clichéd and dull elements of the process, there is simply nothing more useful and indeed essential than a good checklist. Ideally, you should be preparing your checklist months in advance and have it with you at all times – a piece of paper with plenty of notes on is far more reliable than your memory alone! When deciding on your display banners and ads, remember than there is a sweet-spot that lies between too much and too little information. Never attempt to baffle visitors with masses of text, nor be tempted to use too many clever pictures and graphics they might not understand. Be sociable and get chatting with the other stands around you from the second you arrive – you never know which might and might not be able to send some incredible leads your way, or at least lend you some electric tape when yours goes missing. Last but not least, most trade-show visitors know what they are looking for and will NOT respond well to being pounced upon with aggressive and annoying sales-pitches. Instead, remain approachable and friendly and all times and never for one second cross the line into being pushy – you will fail.

As a recruiter, I have been asked to attend job fairs several times. However, unless it is specifically a job fair is meant for my industry, I rarely attend it. It is true that a specific job fair bring in as many job seekers as possible. So, shall I go to a job fair if I am a job seeker?

Most of the job fairs stick to freshers or entry-level jobs. This is typically not the forum for specialized skill sets or a person looking for middle-to-upper management jobs or primary school teaching courses. Many hotels, retail chains, and other generic entry-level and trainee jobs can successfully find candidates with basic skill sets in a job fair. If this is your interest, you will have a plenty of options in the fair for you.

Networking Opportunities at Job Fairs

Companies and recruiters need to meet hundreds of candidates within a short time frame. So they will have precise focus on finding the exact skill set they need. Being a job seeker, you will have a small window of opportunity to showcase your skills and capture their attention to tell them that you are a good fit. You will have to stand ahead of others and you need to present your case perfectly as you will have to compete with many others.

Should I Attend Job Fairs?

It depends upon the job you are willing to take. If you are a fresher, there is nothing to lose in attending job fairs. You can pick and choose which fairs to attend. A job fair offers you a good forum for preparing you for the interviews. Try different versions of the same answer and see what kind of response you get from the recruiter. A job fair is also a good platform to network with people from the company which you are interested to join. You may also get a chance to attend any company specific job fair or seminar. Many companies store resume in their database and if you are lucky, you may hear back from them someday.

Art fairs are one of the least typical trade fairs around. Rather than sales people trying to draw you into their booths to sample their latest product, why not browse it like in a gallery? Which is what it is, effectively. The difference being that this exhibition is open, not curated by anyone and everything has a price tag. I know one thing. I’d certainly rather be at this kind of trade show than at a conference showcasing the latest franking machines for business.

Art Dubai is one of the most recent additions to the art fair calendar. Launched six years ago before the economic meltdown, it has survived the lean years successfully so far and is now starting to demonstrate a bolder approach – with works getting more challenging and pricey. A conceptual piece of work by Palestinian artist Jumana Manna called ‘Wanderers'(a four-person sleeping bag) was sold at the opening of the fair to a collector in the Emirates for $16,000. A triptych by AyaHaidar went for £20,000 while drawings by Rana Begum were sold for £1,000.

The fair has seen a total of 75 dealers come to Dubai from 32 countries to check out the wares in the spacious MadinatJumeirah. In addition to the art work, the fair used the opportunity to unveil plans for new gallery and studio space in Dubai. The project will create around 46,000 square-metres of space for the artists and also include restaurants and a café. The total cost of the project is estimated at £8.5 million. By all accounts it was a successful fair with most exhibitors reporting strong sales. Perhaps this more exclusive brand of trade fair is one which is more resilient in the face of the global economic crisis. It is certainly one of the more fun variants to visit.

No matter what service you are trying to promote, whether you have global business looking for million-dollar clients or customers for boiler installation Paddington, the most important thing at an exhibition is to get your business noticed. There are many ways of doing this, from using new media for marketing such as twitter or facebook to arranging specific events at your booth to draw people in. One of the most persistent methods used over the year, however, continues to be the freebie.

While for many, this conjures up images of the free branded pen, many companies are more inventive with their brand awareness schemes. I have received a quality screwdriver kit from Saudi Aramco, for example, and an array of t-shirts, ornaments and USB sticks from other firms. These, like the pens, are good to spread the word and promote the brand but they also project an image of the company – an expensive gift implies a classier company.

If you don’t have much money to waste on such things, a way round this is the competition. Many companies use a quiz about the business to draw the potential client into the stand and to learn about their attributes. Another simpler method is to just ask visitors to your booth to put their business cards into a pot with a winner being drawn at a key time during the trade show. This gives you a collection of cards and potential customers for future marketing ventures and also draws people back to your stand.

The main benefit, of course, to this method is that it can have the same impact as giving away a small free gift, yet doesn’t cost as much. One prize costing, say, £100 will still be less than buying 5,000 key-rings, for example. Despite the fact it costs less, this can still leave you looking like the classier company.

When a patient is wrongly diagnosed with having cancer, this can be an incredibly traumatic time. Whether this was a minor form of cancer or a major type which required a significant amount of treatment, claiming cancer mis diagnosis compensation should be a person’s next port of call. If your company is expert in this and you’re about to attend an exhibition, there are many factors which should be considered long before you actually set up your stand. So, here are a few helpful tips:

			<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
1. Print eye-catching leaflets By handing out well designed leaflets to people who are at the exhibition will make them aware of the fact that you can help them if they wish to claim for cancer mis diagnosis compensation. Also, including any contact information, such as your website or telephone number, will also enable people to know the easiest way to get in touch with you.

2. Consider the size of the exhibition If the exhibition is being held at a small venue, taking along a stand which is oversized would be a wasted opportunity. With exhibition stands, size does matter. This is because information about the services which a company provides is all an attendee wants to know about.

3. Higher the right people As the individuals who man your stand are the face of your company, they should be warm and welcoming. This is particularly true because your company offers assistance with cancer mis diagnosis compensation. By carefully listening to what attendees have to say, this will have a greater impact on them. It will also mean that any initial prices which are charged by your company can be directly relayed to them, rather than this information being discovered later on. As your prices might be more cost-effective when compared to what other companies charge, they will immediately know about whether you’re the right business for them.

Trade shows and exhibitions are often seen as potential opportunities for exposing your business to the targeted market segments. However, not all companies that go for it are able to reap the marketing advantages of these business exhibitions. The reason behind that is also quite simple to understand – they are not prepared well before the business exhibitions.

Talking of being prepared for a business exhibition, there are several factors that count. Without considering each detail with its due relevance to your marketing benefits, you should not go to an event. Otherwise, it may not benefit you or maybe, even adversely impact your market image.

Let’s see what factors you should consider while preparing yourself for a business exhibition:

You need to have an established brand building strategy, which you should use during the trade shows as well. For example, if you have your existing slogans, tag lines, marketing materials, data that is likely to impress visitors, use it strategically for your business promotion. This will help you make an impulse upon the onlookers.

Location of your booth should be chosen such that it gets maximum exposure. Its size and furnishing should be such that it accommodates your staff, furniture and the stuff you want to keep there. Even the mundane things like coat hooks wall mounted might make a difference in increasing the visual appeal of your booth.

You should use exhibit accessories very well. For example, you can use lighting to give a bright exposure to your booth; you can use projectors, wall hangings, product brochures, reports etc such that they become attractive to the people who visit your booth.

You can also offer promotional gifts, discounts, or giveaways that have a good degree of brand association. You can use them to entice the visitors to your booth and then, collect their contact data to provide to your marketing department.

Exhibitions should be simple: all those people, all those potential sales and YOU sitting there ready to clean up and spread your brand’s awareness. So…how come it isn’t? It’s probably due to a few factors, like:

1) So much competition boggles peoples minds.

2) Not everyone who attends an exhibition is spending money. A large percentage are doing the equivalent of window shopping.

3) You can’t always predict human nature.

Enigin Scam Busters are one new company who will almost certainly do well at upcoming exhibitions. Spending their days hunting out energy scams and putting the world to rights on the best products which really can save you countless pennies, this firm have an organic ethos and a natural way of doing business. I don’t know for sure but I’m inclined to think that Enigin Scam Busters would condone the following techniques at an exhibition. And why not try them? It’s all a learning process!

…it doesn’t matter what your age is, colour is interesting and flat grey really isn’t

1) Make yourself visible beyond the exhibition stand: that doesn’t mean getting a mega-phone out, it just means asking the event organisers what your rights are as exhibitors. If they say it’s fine to wander around on the back of an elephant with a huge attention-grabbing carrot sellotaped to your head, then why don’t you do it?

			2) People love free things. If you have samples of things, or food, or both, then that will attract people, so make sure you do your best to look attractive!

3) Make sure your stand isn’t boring: OK, so this is subjective, but the point is this – it doesn’t matter what your age is, colour is interesting and flat grey really isn’t. Make your stand into a work of art and the people will come. Even if they don’t buy anything or enquire then chances are that they will at least remember the experience. That’s good, because word of mouth spreads like nothing else. Be sure to take advantage!

If you are planning on setting up a stall at an exhibition centre, then you need to ensure that people are going to take the time to look at your display and take notice of your business offerings. This can be difficult when there are so many others there trying to do the same thing. So what can you do to stand out from the rest and become a talking point of the ehxibition?

Be bold - this is one time when it definitely pays to be bold and daring in your marketing strategy. There may be 100 other stalls in the centre, and you need to ensure that yours is a memorable one.

Be interactive - nobody takes much notice of a stand with a few informational leaflets on it. You need to engage the visitors in some way. This can be done through the products if necessary, or by being very talkative and helpful.

Create a buzz - if you can manage to create a buzz aorund your stall, by putting on some form of exciting show or demostration, you will encourage more people to come over and look.

Walk around advertising - there is nothing to say that you can not get people to walk around druming up business, and if you do this with flambouyant and imaginative people, you will get noticed. Costumes or uniforms are always a good idea, as people usually want to know why why people are there dressed like that

Free samples - even if people are not interested in what you are offerign at the centre, if they take away a free sample of what you have to offer, your product will have more chance of being looked at and used.

Be friendly - whatever you decide to do with your stand, the most important thing for you is that you create a positive and friendly atmosphere. It really does count for a lot in this world. I was at a trade fair talking to a very freindly tailors from Nottingham, and he managed to charm me into a purchase even though I had no intention beforehand.
